Thanks to All...

...Who came out tonight to the public meeting at the Carnegie Library in Mount Vernon Square. The four development teams presented their plans for 5th & I, and members of the community got to ask questions about those plans. We'll explore more about those questions here on this blog and in future public meetings. Didn't get to attend but have questions? We'd love to hear your comments. Email us your comments, or post a comment here on the blog.

I definitely like the "European appeal" of your project (it's definitely not an Esocoff!). that said, I think that DC is lacking in iconic buildings. think of the Burj Al-Arab in Dubai or the Taipei 101 in Taiwan or the East Wing of the NGA. I'm not expecting the Burj but what about the 5th-and-I project would you characterize as more aesthetically defining than not?

appreciated your coming out to make presentations to the community!

PQ-
It's a tall order to create something that is iconic but that still relates on a human scale to the surrounding neighborhood.

I think Shalom Baranes is the right architect to do it - it's an interesting mix of a clean glass look (which a lot of LEED/green buildings have) and the organicism/studied randomness of the balcony projections. It also will have a very open feel on the ground floor that'll really relate it to the street - no blank walls here.
